Saica Group breaks ground on $110 million facility in Anderson, Indiana

ANDERSON, Ind. (From news reports) -- A producer of corrugated cardboard from recycled paper broke ground Tuesday on its second U.S. plant in an area north of the I-69 interchange for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Anderson.

Spain-headquartered Saica Group says the $110 million project, covering the space of roughly six American football fields, should open by the end of 2026. It could employ more than 100 people once it's at full capacity. It will also serve as a backup plant for Saica Pack in the Cincinnati suburb of Hamilton, Ohio, enhancing the company's U.S. supply chain security.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. committed up to $2 million in tax credits and $150,000 in training grants to support the project, with additional incentives for infrastructure improvements.

Susana Alejandro, president and CEO of Saica Group, said at the groundbreaking at 6300 Park Road in Anderson that the company is aiming for long-term growth in the United States. Saica says it employs 12,000 people in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Turkey, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States.

Former state Sen. Tim Lanane was part of the groundbreaking, representing Anderson City Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. Both are Democrats.

Others at the groundbreaking were Indiana Secretary of Commerce David J. Adams, and Erik Rovina, the economic and commercial counselor of Spain based in Chicago.
