Empresas Copec agrees $450M capital injection for Arauco amid $4.6B Brazilian pulp mill project

Empresas Copec has agreed to provide a capital commitment of $450 million to its forestry subsidiary Arauco. The board called an extraordinary shareholders' meeting for 10 September to approve the capital support agreement.

Arauco is developing the Sucuriú megaproject in Brazil, requiring $4.6 billion investment to produce 3.5 million tonnes of pulp annually. The funds will be available from January 2027 to December 2028 under certain triggering conditions. Arauco will pay a 0.3% annual commission on uncommitted balances.

Empresas Copec previously committed $1.2 billion to Arauco, having already injected $750 million. The company is also considering selling standing timber in Chile to ease financial pressure. The Sucuriú project reached 62% completion in April, ahead of schedule.
