Veritiv Pennsylvania facility to close

PENNSYLVANIA (From news reports) -- An Atlanta-based logistics company has decided to close its warehouse in Lemoyne.

The Veritiv Operating Company has notified the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry that it plans to close its warehouse at 221 S. 10th St. in Lemoyne on Dec. 31.
"After a thoughtful review of the central Pennsylvania market, as well as our strategic decisions to put inventory closer to our customers and the discontinuation of the Saalfeld-branded channel, we intend to close our Lemoyne facility by the end of the year," Greg Garno, regional operations leader for Veritiv's northeast region said in a statement. "We informed employees and IBT Local 776 of this decision on Sept. 4, 2019. The inventory from Lemoyne will be redistributed to other Veritiv warehouses, including the larger Mechanicsburg distribution center located approximately six miles from the Lemoyne facility."
The warehouse employs less than a hundred employees. Some employees will be moved to the company's Mechanicsburg-area warehouse, according to a letter submitted by Veritiv to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry through the Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification act. That warehouse is located on Westport Drive in Lower Allen Township.
"A number of employees based in Lemoyne will move to our Mechanicsburg facility," Garno said.
The company says it is still determining the number of people that will be laid off. Many of the layoffs will probably occur in the second or third week of November and some will also occur in December, according to the letter.
"Affected employees will be offered severance and we are working with Pennsylvania's Rapid Response Team to assist those employees who are seeking new employment find positions," Garno said.
Veritiv leases 311,707 square feet of the facility. The facility was built in 1997 and has 885,346 square feet of space and sits on more than 38 acres of land. The facility was sold in 2015 to GLP for nearly $51 million.
