Update: Fire in Tolko's Williams Lake mill results in temporary layoffs for repairs

CANADA (From news reports) -- Tolko Industries Ltd. in Williams Lake has issued temporary layoffs to 35 employees while repairs take place at the Lakeview mill facility.

Chris Dancocks, senior communications advisor at Tolko, said it is not yet known exactly how long the work will take to get the facility back up and operating, but they are currently estimating about three weeks.

A fire at the mill late Sunday night, early Monday morning on Dec. 1, was brought under control by first responders, with the Williams Lake Fire Department attending.

While no injuries resulted from the fire, sawmill production at the Lakeview sawmill was paused until repairs are completed.

Other Tolko operations will continue, however, with the planer mill, log yard, chip plant, and shipping areas remaining in full operation.
