Suzano, the world's leading market pulp producer, proudly joins China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, along with value chain partners Sun Paper and M&G, in announcing the launch of the World Environment Rare Animal Species Series of Carbon Neutral Notebook at the flagship World Environment Day event in Chengdu, China. This product has been certified by SGS, an internationally recognized testing and certification body, making it the first product in China's pulp and paper industry to receive ISO 14068-1 verification for carbon neutrality. This initiative supports Suzano's ongoing efforts to drive and promote meaningful change in the way society produces and consumes, reinforcing the company's role as a catalyst for transformation toward a more sustainable future.
The source materials supplied by Suzano are 100% virgin eucalyptus pulp from forests certified for sustainable forest management. Through rigorous carbon footprint measurement and optimization, the product achieves closed-loop "cradle-to-grave" carbon neutrality across its entire life cycle from raw material sourcing, production, and logistics to post-consumption waste disposal. Any unavoidable carbon emissions generated during the process were offset through carbon credits from Suzano's own VERRA-certified ARR project in Brazil. As key partners in this initiative, Sun Paper, a leading paper manufacturer, and M&G, China's leading stationery company, collaborated on this sustainability practice covering the whole value chain.
Pablo Machado, Suzano Asia President of Business Management, comments,
"As Brazil prepares to host COP 30, we are proud to launch this benchmark product in China with our value chain partners. This not only exemplifies green industry collaboration between China and Brazil but also creates a replicable solution for global value chain low carbon transition."
Pan Tianyi, Marketing Director of Sun Paper, comments,
"Sun Paper has made carbon neutrality a core pillar of our corporate strategy. This partnership marks a breakthrough in value chain decarbonization for all three companies, while powerfully embodying the principle of full lifecycle responsibility. Going forward, we will scale up bio-based material applications across our operations, enable more end products to achieve 'cradle-to-grave' carbon neutrality, positioning our industry as a driving force for meaningful climate action worldwide."
Chen Zidan, Chief Sustainability Officer of M&G, comments:
"As the pioneer of ESG reporting in China's stationery industry, M&G has established an ambitious decarbonization strategy - with targets to cut operational emissions 42% by 2030 and reach full carbon neutrality by 2050. From creating the market's first carbon-neutral writing instruments to these innovative notebooks developed with value chain partners, we're transforming sustainability from theory to practice. Each product serves as a hands-on lesson, making sustainability relatable and actionable for the next generation."
Notably, the notebook's packaging features illustrations of rare animal species including giant panda, golden snub-nosed monkey, Amazon river dolphin and jaguar - catering to eco-conscious consumers while serving as an educational tool to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation.
