Smurfit's employee development is way forward in manufacturing
DUBLIN (From news reports) -- Smurfit Kappa in Lurgan has invested in the development of its senior management team by engaging training consultancy Square Box to undertake a range of tailored training programmes.

Two dozen of Smurfit Kappa's senior leaders and managers across various levels will benefit from the training, beginning in January, which has been specifically tailored to suit their individual developmental needs.

Paul Friar, general manager at Smurfit Kappa, said: "The key to our strategic development is investing in our employees. We spent a long time selecting a learning development partner that was not only the correct fit, but also understood our needs and could demonstrate how they could add value to our business. That's why we chose Square Box."

He added: "Building on the success of the innovative training that Square Box delivered, we are excited to be moving forward into phase two, which will run for the next 12 months, expanding upon key aspects of the first year's programme.

"They have created a clear focus and vision, as well as given us a tool-kit that will ensure we have the capability and resilience to deliver in the months and years ahead."

Alison Carroll, business development consultant at Square Box, said: "Working with Smurfit Kappa is a fantastic opportunity for our team. The company approached us initially saying they wanted to develop their employees further and we created a bespoke leadership and management development programme for them.

"The initial programme was a huge success and attendees wholly embraced our practical, fun and challenging training techniques. Employees now operate as a cohesive team with increased capability. Individually, they have greater self-awareness, have grown in confidence and are more decisive."

Smurfit Kappa, whose global headquarters is in Dublin, has 46,000 employees in 352 facilities across 35 countries and last year had revenues of €8.9 billion.
