Metsä Board, LUMENE and Van Genechten awarded a ScanStar for their collaborative cosmetics calendar

Nordic beauty and innovative packaging design come together in LUMENE's cosmetics calendar of Christmas 2024, which won the prestigious ScanStar packaging award. The calendar was designed by Metsä Board's packaging design team and manufactured by VG Kvadra Pak, part of Van Genechten Packaging Group.

"It's inspiring to see how collaboration between experts from different fields can create exceptional experiences for our customers and consumers -- all while staying true to the principles of circular economy that are so important to us at LUMENE," says Essi Arola, Sustainability & Packaging Director at LUMENE.

Roberts Vasilevskis, General Director of VG Kvadra Pak JSC, Riga, adds:
"Because packaging should do more than protect -- it should inspire. Working closely with LUMENE and Metsä Board, we brought the Nordic experience to life through creativity, sustainability, and functionality. It shows the power of collaboration in turning a vision into reality."

The calendar is made from MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright and MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright folding boxboards, which are made from renewable wood fibres and are easy to recycle. The excellent surface smoothness and high brightness of the board ensures that the winter landscape looks stunning on the outer packaging of the calendar as well as on the protective sleeve.

"By combining deep material knowledge with converting efficiency, we can create packaging solutions that are both functional and visually impactful. The multi-dimensional structure and Nordic aesthetics of LUMENE's calendar deliver a rich consumer experience - while remaining easy to manufacture," says Iiro Numminen, Packaging Designer at Metsä Board.

ScanStar is a joint Nordic packaging competition driven by enthusiasm for creating usable, sustainable and appealing packaging. It is organised annually by the Scandinavian Packaging Association. Winning a ScanStar award is the way for Nordic companies to enter the international WorldStar packaging award competition organised by the World Packaging Organisation.
