MENASHA (From news reports) -- Dura-Fibre acquired Greif Chicago Converting and will move its manufacturing operations to Menasha, the company announced last week.
Dura-Fibre currently employs about 60 people and has a 125,000 square-foot facility in Menasha. It creates laminated paperboard solutions, including industrial crates, folding carton packaging and furniture components, among other products.
By acquiring Greif Chicago Converting, Dura-Fibre is adding strap protectors used to protect cargo, an industrial packaging product called FiberWrap and coverboard products used for diploma covers, register books and other items, according to a Thursday news release.
As a result, manufacturing operations will move to Dura-Fibre's facility in Menasha, and the Greif Chicago Converting location, at 4501 W. 16th St. in Chicago, is closing, a spokesperson for Dura-Fibre said.
The acquisition will create new jobs in Menasha, but "we do not have a specific number to share," Sydney Czyzon, an associate marketing consultant for Blue Door Consulting who sent the news release, said in an email Friday.
"The relocation will eliminate jobs in Chicago and Dura-Fibre welcomes any existing employees who would like to relocate," Czyzon said.
Greif did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the acquisition and what will happen with the Chicago location and its employees.
Greif is a global packaging business that is based in Ohio. Greif has four locations in Wisconsin, according to the company's website.
Greif's Protect-A-Board and Protect-A-Floor products were not included in the sale, according to the release.
"The acquisition further solidifies Dura-Fibre's position as one of the largest independent industrial paperboard laminating businesses in the United States," the release states.
