Machine that led to layoffs at Pixelle Chillicothe, Ohio mill to be repaired

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (From news reports) -- The machine damaged in a fire March 17 at Pixelle Specialty Solutions will be repaired, according to the company.

The damaged machine caused the layoff of 80 employees at the Chilpaco paper mill.
The No. 23 paper machine repair is expected to take two to three weeks. According to a release from the company, contractors are being scheduled and crew schedules will be updated.
"Our analysis concluded the machine, its crew, and the products they make are competitive advantages for us and our customers," said Keithe Washoska, general manager in the release.
Two other machines at the mill were still operational and crews assigned to those machines continue to work.

The machine fire broke out just before 10:30 p.m. March 17 and Chillicothe firefighters remained on scene assisting Pixelle's fire brigade until 12:20 a.m. March 18, according to the Chillicothe Fire Department report. When Chillicothe firefighters arrived, they indicated Pixelle's fire brigade already had hose lines in place.
