Klabin announces maintenance shutdown at Puma Unit

Paraná (News release) -- Klabin will carry out the 2023 maintenance shutdown at the Puma Unit in Ortigueira, Paraná, starting this week. This important event is designed to ensure the proper functioning and reliability of equipment at the Unit, besides implementing improvements that enhance the quality of the company's production process and increase the safety of both the employees and community.

Maintenance downtimes are regulatory events for certain industrial sectors and conducted in compliance with Brazilian law. During these times, interventions are made that guarantee the reliability of operations and bring safety to processes, employees and community. The shutdown also creates an opportunity for technological improvements and upgrades to be implemented. Note that at Klabin, the stages of the maintenance shutdown are defined based on project management best practices, with the focus on safety, planning, integration and quality in the production processes at the manufacturing units.

To support it during this period, Klabin seeks companies and workers with adequate technical skills and who meet the legal requirements to perform said activities, and also adopts the best occupational safety and health practices offered by the market. A significant portion of the manpower comes from nearby cities, generating income for workers in the Campos Gerais region. This event requires logistics and infrastructure that includes transport, accommodation, meals and other services, all of which strongly drive the economy of the cities. Moreover, tax collections for municipal governments increase during these periods due to higher occupancy of hotels and higher overall demand for food.

To preserve the health of professionals and the community, Klabin has in place protocols such as submission of proof of the COVID-19 booster shot, regular cleaning and a cafeteria dedicated to workers in the maintenance shutdown, as well as inspection, by Klabin and contractors, of the locations where employees will stay.
