Jim Thompson invited to give Career Talk at Pratt Industries

On January 16, 2019, Jim Thompson gave his career lessons talk to a class of new Pratt employees training for the upcoming startup up of the mill in Wapakoneta, Ohio, planned for later this year. Covering subjects from "The 3 Freshman Years" to "Final Exit" Thompson shared career experiences from forty-nine years in industry.

Jim said another way to think about this talk is "49 years in 45 minutes." Jim addressed such subjects as respect for one another; how to plan to be where you want to be in your career by age 50 and many other topics. Of course, the most important machine in any enterprise and each employees' involvement with it was covered under the topic "spinning the invoice printer."

On another note, Thompson talked about dogs and psychologists, with recommendations that one engage either or both without fear when necessary. His unique take on dogs was that they teach us to not be selfish and self-centered (among other interesting perspectives).

He also covered work/life balance with some surprising insights on how to achieve this goal in a paper mill environment.

The class was attentive and taking copious notes. Many said the perspectives Thompson gave were ones they had not considered before.
