Green Bay Packaging buys company, announces expansion project
GENEVA, Ohio (From news reports) -- The sale of Third Dimension, a 29-year-old packaging company, was officially announced to employees and the media during a press conference on Thursday morning.

Louis DeJesus, owner and founder of Third Dimension, announced not only the sale to Green Bay Packaging, but a planned expansion project as well.

DeJesus said the necessity of selling the company became apparent so they could continue to grow with customers that are now significant players in national markets.

"If you don't grow you die," he said.

Green Bay Packaging Executive Vice President Bryan Hollenbach also spoke at the press conference and assured employees the company planned to invest in the future.

DeJesus discussed his experience of growing up poor in Geneva after relocating from Puerto Rico. He said his parents instilled the importance of having pride in oneself and working hard.

Third Dimension provides corrugated boxes for a variety of companies as well as foam packaging products. He said his first experience with corrugated material was using cardboard to protect his feet when the soles of his shoes would wear out.

DeJesus said he realized the company needed to work with another about three years ago and has been talking with Green Bay Packaging leaders for about two years.

"I knew we needed to become part of a larger company," he said.

DeJesus indicated he plans to be with the company for at least three more years. Third Dimension presently employs just over 100 people, but that will hopefully change in the near future as a $70,000 to $80,000 expansion project is in the works.

DeJesus said he didn't want to pinpoint the exact amount of jobs to be added, but indicated it is likely to be "substantial."

Green Bay Packaging, a Wisconsin based firm, is a $2 billion family-owned business with 3,600 employees, Hollenbach said.

Hollenbach said the company was started in 1929 and has been family owned ever since.

"We reinvest in businesses," he said.

"I think you will find it is a great day for you," Hollenbach said to the employees at the event.

Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sue Ellen Foote said it was a good day for Geneva.

"It is exciting [there will be] no change to the management team or to the employees and their benefits. It just sounds like a win-win for Geneva and the future of Third Dimension," she said.
