Firefighters douse flames at Domtar pulp mill
KAMLOOPS, B.C. (From news reports) -- Kamloops Fire Rescue says there was minimal damage after a fire broke out within a building at the Domtar pulp mill on Sept. 11.

KFR Platoon Captain Kris Krutop says firefighters were called to the scene along Mission Flats Road at 8:22 p.m Friday.

When crews arrived, they found the fire on the top floor of the chip sorting area in Domtar's CTS building. Krutop says firefighters spread out over two floors to be sure the chips weren't spreading flames elsewhere.

"It was knocked down by both KFR and Domtar crews. It activated their sprinkler system, and some equipment had to be accessed in order to have a look inside it," he explains, "So for chips inside some equipment, we had to take off some panels and things like that. So overall it (the operation) was longer than it normally would be."

A few pieces of equipment saw some damage but Krutop says the fire was contained to the single building. The cause has not yet been determined.
