Fire at WestRock facility

COLUMBUS, Ind. (From news reports) - The WestRock Paper and Packaging Company in Columbus, experienced a small blaze on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 30. The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded at approximately 4:00 p.m. to the report of a machine on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they learned that WestRock employees used several dry chemical fire extinguishers to put out the fire in a cardboard chipper machine.

Crews assessed the situation and found smoldering cardboard remained in three machines used in the chipping and collection process. Using hose lines, CFD extinguished the smoldering materials.

Damages were isolated to the chipper machine and a cardboard baler. No injuries were reported.
