Crews put out fire at Graphic Packaging facility; no injuries reported

A building fire broke out on the morning of Feb. 3 at Graphic Packaging.

The alarm system in the building, located at 905 Perry Parkway, alerted occupants of the emergency, prompting the evacuation.

Crews arrived at 12:03 p.m. and quickly located the source of the fire.

Crews successfully extinguished the flames, and no injuries were reported.

According to the assistant fire chief, Kirk Crumpton, the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears to have started in a baling machine that takes the smaller scraps of drink containers and tightly packs them into bales for recycling

Crumpton also said that all fire units have returned to service with a total scene time of 56 minutes.
