SPOKANE, Wash. (News release) -- Clearwater Paper Corporation has released its 2026 Sustainability Report, providing an annual update on the company's progress toward its multiyear sustainability goals.
Aligned with the company's strategic sustainability framework, Everyday Responsibility, the report details sustainability efforts and initiatives across three pillars: Resource Stewardship, Trusted Products, and Thriving People and Communities.
"At Clearwater Paper, we build responsibility into every step of our work to ensure our employees work safely, source materials responsibly, operate our mills efficiently, develop sustainable products and support the communities where we operate," said Arsen Kitch, president and chief executive officer. "While 2025 was a challenging year for our industry because of a supply-driven downturn, we remained focused on what we can control: managing costs, serving our customers and continuing to make the capital investments necessary to maintain and improve the performance of our assets. We believe this focus is key to the company's long-term success."
The 2026 Sustainability Report highlights Clearwater Paper's progress throughout 2025 and showcases achievements, initiatives and stories that demonstrate the company's Everyday Responsibility framework. Key highlights include:
- Reduced the lost-time injury rate by more than 50% year over year.
- Reduced safety risks by more than 20% through the aspects and impacts process.
- Reduced Scope 2 emissions and integrated the Augusta facility into greenhouse gas emissions reporting processes.
- Improved water intake intensity by 6%, advancing toward the company's goal of a 10% reduction by 2030.
- Received Biodegradable Products Institute compostable certification at the Lewiston and Cypress Bend mills, covering most folding carton and food-service grades.
- Launched Velora™, a new lightweight paperboard option, in early 2026.
- Continued support for nonprofit organizations, local schools and communities through charitable giving, grants, volunteerism and sustainability education initiatives.
