BiOrigin Specialty Products pulp bales catch on fire

MENOMINEE, Mich. (From news reports) -- A fire at the BiOrigin Specialty Products paper manufacturing plant broke out Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 9.
An alarm sounded at the Menominee Fire Station at 12:23 p.m., alerting the firefighters to the fire at 144 1st St.
The fire appears to have been confined to bales, causing minimal damage to the building, according to Menominee Fire Chief Steve Floriano.
"It was pulp bales," Floriano said. "They lost a considerable amount of product, but there was very little building damage."
It took about two hours to put the fire out, Floriano said. Teams cleared the scene at 4:09 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
One worker was transported for smoke inhalation, and there were no other reported injuries.
Several area firefighters assisted with the fire call, including those from the fire departments from City of Menominee, City of Marinette, City of Peshtigo, Grover-Porterfield, Mellen Township, Menominee-Ingallston, Stephenson, and Town of Peshtigo.
Bay Area Paramedics and Emergency Rescue Squad, Menominee City Police Department, Menominee County 911 and Menominee County Victim Services Unit also assisted.
