2-alarm fire at International Paper facility

PHOENIX, Arizona (From The Republic) -- Fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked a blaze at an International Paper facility Tuesday afternoon near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

It took crews about 40 minutes to control the fire, said Phoenix Fire Capt. Ardell Deliz.

Firefighters were still at the scene as of 10 p.m. to clear debris and suppress hotspots, Deliz said.

What caused the fire was not immediately known, but Deliz said detectives will review footage from the plant's surveillance cameras as part of the investigation.

Several weeks ago, another paper recycling plant near Sky Harbor Airport caught fire just before the evening rush hour, sending a massive plume high into the air.
