Two workers dead after accident at Domtar mill

Domtar received confirmation from the Sûreté du Québec this morning (Oct. 28) of the tragic news regarding the second worker, Mr. Hugo Paré, who also lost his life following the collapse of a scaffolding on October 26 at approximately 1:35 a.m. at the company's Windsor mill. This loss is in addition to Mr. Yan Baillargeon, who was found yesterday.

Green Box fraud convict Ron Van Den Heuvel claimed he repaid $6 million in restitution. Prosecutors say he's lying.

Ron Van Den Heuvel, 67, is serving a 90-month sentence in federal prison for fraud stemming from his operation of Green Box, a business that he pitched to investors as a way to convert food-contaminated waste into reusable paper and plastic products. At sentencing in January 2019, he also was ordered to pay $9.4 million to 14 of the organizations and investors he was found guilty of defrauding.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. on Oct. 26, an accident occurred at the Domtar Windsor Mill site when a scaffold collapsed into equipment. Three workers were injured in the accident. One worker was taken to hospital where his life is not in danger. Two workers are still trapped and efforts are being made for their safe rescue by first responders.
