Fire damages U.S. Paper Mills Corp. in Menasha

MENASHA, Wisc. (From news reports) -- Firefighters on Thursday afternoon battled a fire at U.S. Paper Mills Corp. in Menasha.

The fire was reported just after 2 p.m., said Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue Chief Kevin Kloehn. Firefighters were still on the scene more than two hours later. Damage estimates were not available at that time.

A fire started in a paper machine and went through a vent into the roof, he said. Multiple fire departments were called in to assist.

"They had a lot of fire initially and it spread into the roof," Kloehn said. "And they also had sparks from the initial fire start a fire on another roof" on a different part of the mill.

Kloehn was not aware of any injuries.
