Investigation into huge UPM Shotton paper mill fire under way

SHOTTON, Wales (From The Daily Post) -- Firefighters battled flames at UPM Kymene UK Ltd for more than four hours Monday night.

The alarm was raised at around 8 p.m. and all staff were evacuated.

Six fire engines from Mold, Wrexham, Deeside, Buckley, Holywell and Flint, an aerial ladder platform and an incident command unit were called to the scene.

Monday night, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that the fire was "well developed" at one stage.

The fire is believed to have started in the recycling room but the cause is currently unknown.

Fire officers were set to return to the scene Tuesday morning to investigate how the blaze started.

The flames were brought under control by 12: 10 a.m. and all crews left the scene by 1:15 a.m.
