Kruger Inc. to halt a paper machine at its Brompton mill indefinitely

MONTRÉAL - Kruger Inc. today (24 Sept 2014) announced that it will stop production on the No. 1 Paper Machine and deinked pulp plant operations at its Brompton Newsprint Mill for an indefinite period, effective 14 Nov 2014. This decision, which is intended to rebalance the order book and improve the Mill's competitive position, will affect some 98 employees and reduce its annual newsprint production by 100,000 metric tons.

Unfavorable market conditions, in particular the continuing drop in demand for newsprint, were cited as the reason for the decision. Kruger Inc. said it will make every effort to minimize the closure's impact on its employees.

Founded in 1904, Kruger Inc. is a major producer of publication papers, tissue, lumber and other wood products, corrugated cartons from recycled fibers, green and renewable energy and wines and spirits. The Company is also a leader in paper and paperboard recycling in North America. Kruger operates facilities in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador and the United States.
