International Paper employee killed in accident

SAVANNAH, Georgia - A worker was killed at an International Paper mill in Savannah on Sunday afternoon, 30 Aug 2014.

According to the news outlets, Ricky Salter, age 58, was declared dead at the scene following an accident. Salter, a maintenance worker, was reportedly in or around an elevator near the paper roll handling area.


International Paper issued a statement that read, in part, "the cause of his death is unknown at this time. Ricky was a valued and respected member of our Savannah team and was an employee at our mill for more than two years. We are deeply saddened by the death of our team member and friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ricky's family and friends."

The fatality is under investigation.
