Work Thugs

Last week we asked:

Have you observed workplace thugs in your career?

67% YES

33% NO

Then we asked: If so, what have you done about them?

>Tried to ignore them and keep working

>In the first situation I was naive - when I realized they had the knives in my back it was too late - they got me on the CEO's s--tt list as they had access to him and I did not. It was one of several reasons that compelled me to leave for a healthier place. The second one was similar except that I was aware. The atmosphere in the company was deteriorating rapidly so I decided to get out. In both cases it was extremely bad for my mental well being and I did indeed come close to severe accidents from distraction so your warning about caution is very important. I wish I'd had a "spinning the invoice cup" back then.

>I have used a tape recorder and did just what you said. Leave it on the desk in plain site, to discourage harassment and threats. Other than that, there isn't much else that you can do. If your boss is paying attention to business, which they should be, they will be aware of these situations and remove the bad apple/apples immediately. If they aren't or don't remedy, it is time to leave. Life is to short and no one should want to work for a department or a company who does not want to be the best and is not 100% success driven. I would rather make less money and be safe, productive, appreciated and happy.

>Prayer is more powerful

Ed. Note:  Unlike the mainstream media and other trade publications which tend to edit out all religious references, we will boldly and unashamedly post them if you state them.  We will not edit out what is important to you for fear of not being politically correct. See above.

Thank you for your responses.

This week's quiz is here.

Want to get a jump on the surveys? Follow me on twitter, where they are posted early. You can do this here. (note: all respondents are confidential; the software is programmed in such a way that neither we nor anyone else can determine who responded)
