Responding to "Don't forget the spouses"

I saw the same thing you are talking about in the power industry. I think that an employee club (run totally by the employees) was a great asset. The mingling of families in a social environment helped them see and understand that the time problems were across the board with other employees. As safe as everyone tried to be, in times of accidents it also was a network to help deal with any of them.

I was involved in these clubs. Some were job site organized and others were companywide. The company did not control anything, but did help support the clubs through allowing use of facilities. An added benefit was that it helped the management people show that everyone could be equal off the job, although they needed to know the chain of command on the job.
