OpTest's "OpTiSurf" is indeed a new way to measure surface roughness. According to OpTest, "The OpTiSurf revolutionizes the measurement of surface roughness of paper. Using advanced optics and algorithms, it quickly quantifies the optical roughness of entire sheets. OpTiSurf correlates with traditional air leak tests but has greater precision and speed, with less maintenance." And I would emphasize that no air is required. I suggest you look at it today--just click on "More" below.

And when you talk to OpTest, please say hello for us here at Nip Impressions.

Answer to last week's riddle: The Passenger Pigeon (now extinct). "When the first Pilgrims came to America there were an estimated nine billion Passenger Pigeons--more than twice the number of all birds found in America today."-- Bill Bryson, "A Walk in the Woods"

The riddle last week asked: "When the first European permanent settlers arrived, what bird species was most numerous in North America?"

Special note: I know I come off very critical of many environmental issues. My criticism is rooted in what I believe is junk science promulgated by scare mongers. The Passenger Pigeon story is a condemnation of humankind's disregard for nature which I can support (the condemnation) whole-heartedly.
