Fixing Email Problems

We use a program called Mail Marshall that filters our mail. Works well, but the occasional spam gets through. You can "train" it as well to exclude addresses.


They do a pretty good job but must not be very confident because they send me several e-mails a day listing each one they have filtered out just in case I need one of them.


Presently they are using Spam Assassin to part out and discard obvious spam. It does help. An interesting thing happened once. The server went down for a long weekend. The spam-bots got replies back about invalid email addresses and a lot of the spam went away for a while.


Thanks for Gmail suggestion. However, I see Google as a suspect company; CEO comments show he is very blasé about other people's information.

I agree "reply all" is a serious issue. I try to determine who needs to be on any given email distribution. My biggest issue recently is sales people and regional directors wanting to be copied on "all correspondence" for customers within their responsibility. I have resisted so far, but take heat for it.
 I don't understand why some people "reply to all" when obviously replying to just the sender.
 it seems the spammers will always be with us - I delete and move on. Family and friends spam is nearly as pervasive as real spam. People really should consider the grief they could cause a professional manager by forwarding inappropriate material to them. I have seen careers ended prematurely due to the poor use of email - an IT person in our organization sent a "forward this to all your friends" note to the entire company email - 5000 people or so - including the CEO. Needless to say he was quickly gone. I know of a lower level employee who was fired over too many personal IMs to their husband during the working day. Odd, but the same thing could have happened over the telephone with greater disruption to the work day and been undetected or unprovable... We are in a brave new world and Big Brother is watching.
 The mailbox dimension is to small and frequently reach the limit. This cause problems and lack of time.
 Our issue with our company is an unrealistically low storage limit on e-mail accounts - 100 MB. We typically have to spend about 2 hr each day handling/deleting e-mails to keep it from being shut down for being over the limit.
Never put plain text email address on web-page.
