Jim:

Good NI. I, along with Peter, was confused by FIFO LIFO. There was a day I understood, now I've lost it and don't want to bother finding out.

George Whiting was one of the pioneers of papermaking in Wisconsin. Based primarily in the Neenah area, he was nevertheless instrumental in the construction of at least 2 or 3 mills near me. All around 1900. One, purchased by Consolidated in 1945 or 6, still operating in Whiting (near Stevens Point) (named for him much later, when it was incorporated, although he never really lived there), but the old machines are gone. His first, in Neenah, still owned and operated by his family. One original narrow machine. Look it up: Whiting Paper Co.

A machine in the Wisconsin Rapids mill (no connection to George Whiting, new subject) built in 1902-4 (one of 2 original machines) converted to board a couple years ago by SE. Still part of SE: "Corenso." Board used for very successful core operation here, SE.retained ownership.

So there's a few of us old timers left.

See you!

Is the riddle answer: The Corvette?

Oh my. I have many examples from my 29 years in the industry that support your points on mill closures ... but I'm hesitent to name names. Then there are those few that were just flabergasting ... at least to those watching from the outside .. they seemed to make no sense. But then taking what you wrote about the difficulty of closing a mill, I guess to someone in high authority they made a great deal of sense. Someone should write a book.

The cat family is doing well. Daughter Nicole just visited from Grenada where she is 1 1/2 years into the vet program with 1 1/2 years to go there, plus a year in the States. I'm now teaching chemistry, calculus, trig, and environmental science at Autauga Academy.

Our best to you and Laura.

Gene, if you would have taken the time to look you would have found the riddle answer to be M & M's.

Fido, Playdough, Libido, didn't quite get all of this.

Accounting terms--don't worry about it. Fido and Libido are far more fun, but don't mix them together--too kinky and illegal in some places.
