Heinzel Pöls to install new lime cooler at pulp mill in Austria

Heinzel Pöls will install a new stationary lime cooler at its pulp mill in Austria to improve energy efficiency and support a production increase at the existing lime kiln, according to the technology supplier Valmet.

The delivered scope includes engineering, main equipment delivery, disassembly of the existing rotary cooler, installation of the new stationary unit, commissioning and training. The Valmet Stationary Cooler provides high cooling efficiency for burned lime together with heat recuperation, where recovered heat is used to warm incoming air for the kiln burner.

The project is planned to eliminate unplanned stops caused by plugging in the cooler and to generate fuel savings through higher energy efficiency. The fuel saving will allow the mill to raise the lime kiln's production rate.

The order was recorded in Valmet's Q1 2026 intake. No order value was disclosed. Startup of the new cooler is scheduled for the Q4 2027.

Heinzel Pöls is one of the largest producers of bleached and unbleached softwood sulphate pulp in Central and Eastern Europe.
