Arctic Paper Kostrzyn to develop high barrier biodegradable packaging paper

Arctic Paper Kostrzyn S.A., a subsidiary of the Arctic Paper S.A., has signed a contract with Poland's National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) for co-financing of the project. The total net value of the project is over PLN 20 million ($5.3 million), and the maximum value of the co-financing is about PLN 8.3 million ($2.2 million).

Claims about nooses, racial slurs and swastikas spark lawsuit against Sacramento PCA site

A federal agency filed suit against a packaging manufacturer at McClellan Park for allegedly tolerating virulent racial taunts against two Black employees who were so distraught by the discrimination that they ultimately left their jobs. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit in Sacramento federal court against the Packaging Corp. of America and Schwarz Partners LP alleging that two machine operators at the McClellan operation endured racist comments from 2013 through 2017, including being referred to with racial slurs and having their vehicles vandalized.

Commercial Development Company acquires former WestRock paper mill in Newberg, Oregon

Commercial Development Company, Inc. (CDC) has acquired the former WestRock retired paper manufacturing facility in Newberg, Oregon. The site was acquired by CDC affiliate Newberg OR LLC. The transaction included the acquisition of real estate assets and a corporate indemnification for legacy environmental liabilities associated with the site. WestRock to Reduce SBS Capacity by Approximately 200,000 Tons

WestRock Company announced that it plans to reduce its solid bleached sulphate (SBS) mill system production capacity by 200,000 tons by shutting down one paper machine at its Evadale, Texas, mill. This shutdown of the paper machine at the Evadale mill is expected to occur by the end of 2020 and reduce headcount at the mill by 60 employees.
