The paper mill operated at Luke since 1888. Verso, who purchased the mill from New Page Corp. in 2015, posted a notice on its website on April 30 that the mill in Luke would close June 30. Nearly 700 people were impacted by the closure.
A Sonoco employee injured Sunday in an accident at the company's Hartsville Manufacturing Complex is still undergoing treatment for burns he suffered in the incident, the company said Tuesday.
UPM plans to permanently close a SC paper machine in Rauma, Finland and sell its Chapelle newsprint mill in Grand-Couronne, France. If realized, the measures would result in a reduction of 265,000 tonnes of SC capacity and 240,000 tonnes of newsprint capacity in UPM's portfolio.
