Rottneros narrows Q2 loss as cost cuts offset lower sales

Rottneros narrows Q2 loss as cost cuts offset lower sales | Rottneros, financial,

Swedish market pulp producer Rottneros reported a narrower net loss for the second quarter as cost reductions helped offset declining sales prices and volumes.

The company posted a net loss of 11 million Swedish kronor, or SEK 0.04 per share, for the quarter. This compared to a larger loss in the prior-year period, which included a substantial impairment charge.

Net turnover fell 16% year-over-year, driven by lower market prices for NBSK pulp and reduced delivery volumes. The company said sales were limited by lower finished goods inventories.

EBITDA turned positive at SEK 31 million for the quarter. The company attributed improved margins and profitability mainly to lower variable and fixed costs, including a decline in pulpwood prices and cost adjustments implemented in 2025.

Rottneros said demand in its prioritized sulphate pulp niches remained stable and solid, supporting production and sales.

Looking ahead, the company expects full-year investments of approximately SEK 60 million, down from SEK 166 million in 2025. Rottneros said its focus remains on cost efficiency, production availability and cash flow.

The company noted continued overcapacity and competitive pressure in the European pulp market.
