LIVONIA, MI (From news reports) - A packaging supplies company has announced layoffs at its southeast Michigan location due to reduced business.

Pratt Industries is laying off 53 workers at its converting and transportation center in Livonia, 32432 Capitol St., according to a notice the company filed through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. The layoffs are effective Aug. 10.

The Federal WARN Act requires businesses to provide advance notice - at least 60 days - in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs.

The company said the layoffs were due to reduced business because "Ford has decided to end the relationship with company," according to the notice.

Pratt Industries has three locations in Michigan: The Livonia facility, which is listed online as a converting and transportation center, as well as facilities in Grand Rapids in Kalamazoo.

The company says it is the fifth largest corrugated packaging company in the U.S., with manufacturing facilities in 25 states, according to its website.
