Paper mill in Manistique, Michigan to reopen in June

MANISTIQUE, Michigan (From WLUC-TV) -- After being closed for more than a year, Manistique's paper mill is expected to be back up and running in June.

The mill, bought by local man, Stan Zellar will be restarted as UP Paper LLC.

The mill will make used and recycled paper. Zellar says they expect to make mostly brown paper and craft paper.

There's still repair work to do in the mill and several filters from the old FutureMark Paper mill have to be replaced but they hope to start making paper on June 13th.

Around 90 employees will staff UP Paper; compared to the 150 employee staff Manistique Papers had. Zellar says he hopes the smaller staff and more focused paper production will help the new mill stay afloat.
