ALABAMA (From news reports) -- Area fire departments responded to a fire at the Louisiana Pacific mill in the North Clarke Industrial Park off of Highway 43 south of Thomasville Sunday night.
Thomasville Fire Chief Richard Pugh said the alarm was made about 10:30.
The mill produces oriented strand board (OSB) and the fire was said to be in the press building where the sheets of OSB are manufactured and in a warehouse.
Thomasville responded with its aerial ladder truck and others and a call was made for Grove Hill and Jackson to assist with their aerial trucks. Fulton brought a truck to assist with water.
Pugh said, "There were nine to 10 trucks on scene and 40 to 45 [fire] personnel."
"Everyone worked well together," he said of the firefighters from the four departments and the blaze was eventually brought under control.
No employees or first responders were injured.
Pugh said Thomasville firefighters made it back to their stations by 3:30 a.m.
Fires have been a repeated problem at the mill. A fire and explosion occurred at the mill just a few months after its opening in 2008.
Pugh said Sunday's fire was the third or fourth time firefighters have been called to the mill in about a two and a half-month span.
Initial estimates suggest 10-14 days of downtime for repairs. LP is conducting a thorough of the fire.
