GLENS FALLS, New York (From the Glens Falls Post-Star) -- Firefighters were called to two paper mills in the region late Thursday morning after reports of fire.

At 11:20 a.m. a fire was reported at Finch Paper's wood yard. Glens Falls Fire Department remained on the scene fighting the fire until early afternoon.

Glens Falls Fire Chief James Schrammel said the fire broke out in wood chips in the chip processing area of the mill. A conveyor suffered minor damage, and Glens Falls firefighters were on the scene for about 2 hours.

He said the conveyor was shut down after the fire, but Finch staff were working to get it operational later Thursday.

The first was called out shortly after 11 a.m. at Irving Tissue in Fort Edward. Reports said a log saw caught fire that eventually went into the rafters of building No. 47. According to scanner reports, the fire was knocked down and no investigators were called to the scene.

The extent of damage, if any, to the building is unknown.
