ROXBORO, N.C. (From news reports) -- The Louisiana-Pacific building products facility located in Roxboro, North Carolina, received heavy fire and smoke damage from a fire reported around 6:45 p.m. on Monday.

Greg Freeman, fire chief for Woodsdale Volunteer Fire Department in Person County, North Carolina, said a total of 13 agencies and from 50-75 firemen fought the fire for six hours, including 10 firefighters from Woodsdale.

Firefighters from two states, including Virginia and North Carolina, and from four counties, including Person, Granville and Caswell counties in North Carolina and Halifax County fought the fire, according to Freeman.

Freeman said flames were showing through the roof when his fire department arrived at the scene.

The very size of the plant hindered firemen in fighting the blaze, Freeman explained.

The Halifax County ladder truck also was called to the scene to help fight the fire in a building that has a ceiling over 100 feet high, according to Freeman.

One fireman was sent to the hospital for medical reasons not associated with the fire, Freeman explained.

The Louisiana-Pacific plant remained closed Thursday morning.

Assisting with the fire were eight firefighters from Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department who responded with three trucks and remained on the scene until 9 p.m., according to Chief Chris Hudson.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
