Worker seriously hurt in accident on Weyerhaeuser land

GASTON, Oregon - News outlets are reporting that a worker was trapped in the cab of a logging machine and seriously injured when the piece of equipment fell over Monday.

KGW-TV reported that the accident happened just before 9:30 a.m., on Weyerhaeuser property near Hagg Lake.

Firefighters were first to arrive and found the toppled log yarder on top of a log processor. The operator of the yarder was trapped in the cab of the machinery, according to authorities.

It took crews more than 30 minutes to free the worker. He was quickly loaded onto an ambulance and taken to Oregon Health and Science University in serious condition, authorities said.

Investigators said they have not yet been able to figure out why the log yarder fell over.

The victim's name and the name of his employer have not yet been released.
