Worker killed in accident at J.D. Irving facility

NOVA SCOTIA (From CBC News) -- A J.D. Irving employee has been killed on the job at a lumber mill just east of Truro.

Colchester RCMP said they responded to an industrial accident just after 6 p.m. Monday on Valleydale Road, where the J.D. Irving sawmill is located.

Police said a 28-year-old man was struck by a front-end loader and died at the site.

The Nova Scotia Department of Labour is at the site today investigating, said departmental spokesman Andrew Preeper.

"A stop work order has been placed on the equipment involved in the incident, as well as the area in which the incident occurred," he said.
