Mondi announces job cuts

SCUNTHORPE, England (From news reports) -- Around 60 of the 140 employees on the Mondi packaging facility in Scunthorpe face redundancy as part of a plan by the company to downsize the business, it was revealed today (Thursday, July 6).

Consultations with the elected works council on the Foxhills Industrial Estate are continuing.

Today's news comes after Mondi announced it was planning redundancies as part of a downsizing exercise on Friday (June 30).

The GMB and Unite trade unions, which both have members on the Scunthorpe site, are not recognised by the company.

Mondi is also in talks over job losses at its other facilities in Nelson and Deeside in order to steam-line operations and improve efficiency and customer service.

In the announcement, a company spokeswoman said: "The proposed restructure could result in a total of up to 80 redundancies across the three sites.

"All employees will be treated fairly throughout the process, with appropriate support and assistance being provided."
