Miami Products Corp. buys Miami Machine Corp.

OVERPECK, Ohio (From the Dayton Business Journal) -- Miami Machine Corp. in Overpeck, near Trenton, was purchased on Monday by Miami Products Corp. of Cleves, about 15 miles west of Cincinnati. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Michael McNeil has owned Miami Machine since 2001 and was represented by Gerry Chadwick, owner of West Carrollton-based Sunbelt Business Advisors. Roland Rapp of Sunbelt represented Miami Products. Paperitalo Publications was informed that Mr. McNeil will continue with the company as its vice president of sales.

Look for both companies to grow as they use their technical expertise to help each other. This also expands the machining capabilities of the new owner.

Miami Machine serves the paper and processing industries with quick-turnaround equipment repair, machine rebuilds, large-scale machining and fabrication services. It also designs and builds entire paper machines and processing equipment or primary machine sections.

Miami Products -- owned by Shawna Vanderpohl, president, and Irvin Vanderpohl, vice president of engineering -- does similar work for the steel and power industries.

Each company has about two dozen employees and the similar company names is just a coincidence.

Irvin said he will be the general manager of the Miami Machine facility, which will keep its name and stay in its current location. While he declined to provide details, he hinted that some investments to grow Miami Machine may be on the horizon.

Chadwick had been working with McNeil for several years to position the business for sale.

"This was a nice deal for us," Chadwick said.

Miami Machine has seen its workload increase steadily during the last two years and made investments in equipment and software to keep pace. The company is poised to take advantage of several positive shifts in the market, including pent-up demand in the paper and process industries to increase capital expenditures on heavy equipment. There also is a segment potential customers who will look to purchase refurbished equipment, a Miami Machine specialty.

Miami Machine was started in 1972 and was purchased by McNeil in 2001 when the company's original owners retired.
