Man treated after Expera Kaukauna chemical spill

KAUKAUNA, Wisconsin (From the Post-Crescent) -- A man was treated for inhalation of chemical fumes following a sodium hypochlorite spill Monday morning at Expera Specialty Solutions.

Authorities responded to the facility at about 9:20 a.m., according to the release. Kaukauna firefighters stopped the leaking fluid, which when diluted with water becomes bleach. About 20 to 30 gallons of liquid leaked from a paper machine.

The man, who was a contractor and not an Expera employee, was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton.

Authorities cleaned up the spill and extracted the air from the mill's ventilation system.
