How important is your personal integrity to you?

In my column last week, we asked "How important is your personal integrity to you?"

86.7 percent answered "Very important," 13.3 percent answered "Important," and no one answered "Neutral," "Unimportant" or "Very unimportant."

Then, we asked, "How would you rank the integrity of the people you deal with at work every day?"

53.3 replied "Most are of a level of integrity that does not get in the way of their performance," 26.7 percent said "Generally of high integrity," 20 percent answered "Some have problems with their integrity," and no one answered "Many have problems with their integrity" or "The culture is such that integrity is not valued where I work."

Finally, we asked, "I made the case that integrity is first, that is the most important attribute in an employee. Can you cite a case where it is not?"

Responses:

>If and when a situation could arise where compliance with the law required compromising someone's personal integrity, it may be necessary to comply with the law for the good of the company.

>Safety first!!

>More a comment. Last week you referred to people who aren't bound by rules as getting things done (or something to that effect). But this week you reference people of high integrity don't take shortcuts. How do these two realms meet in what you would consider the perfect employee? If say I have high integrity, but worry you would consider me a 'rule-follower' for some of the same reasons.

>Consultants have a unique view of a company or mill. This broader overview often reveals lack of integrity in an organization. One person's lack of integrity can/will have a big impact on teamwork, decisions, production and safety. The distrust of this person by others is particularly damaging when he/she is in a leadership position. Unfortunately, this lack of integrity can go undetected and uncorrected for a long time.

>No. Most problems in the world come down to: Lack of integrity Unfounded beliefs, e.g. religious dogma without respect and morality, money is all..... Thanks for a great column.

>Being alive is more important

>What I would like to comment on here is that it seems the new generation may not have the same integrity as us of the older generation. It's probably not fair to group all in this category (as my daughters seem to work with a lot of integrity) but it seems the younger workforce considers itself more privileged (I guess that is the word to use) and integrity seems to be lacking and hard to instill in them.

You may take this week's quiz here.
