NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (From news reports) -- A fire broke out on the rooftop of a Packaging Corporation of America facility in Northampton on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an evacuation of employees and a large response from the city's fire personnel.

Fire Captain Andy Breen of the Northampton Fire Department said that the fire occurred after a mechanism malfunctioned on the building's roof.

Firefighters responded around 3:45 p.m.

Breen said the damage to the building was very limited and that nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

"There were no injuries, everybody was evacuated from the building," said Breen.

As reporters arrived around 4 p.m. at least two fire engines and a number of ambulances could be seen in the company parking lot, though no fire was visible.

Firefighters will be on fire watch until around 8 p.m. in case of a flare up, said Breen.
